Ms. Anne Mickey is a partner in the firm representing clients before the Maritime Administration, Department of Transportation, Department of Defense, and other agencies. She regularly advises foreign and U.S. companies on contract, corporate, finance and transactional matters and assists clients with contract disputes (private and government), and with issues concerning cabatoge laws, leases, charters, equipment acquisition, and citizenship. In addition to her years of experience in conventional equipment financing, Ms. Mickey is an expert in government guaranteed financing.

Professional Background

From 1977-1980, Ms. Mickey was an attorney with the Federal Maritime Commission (General Counsel’s Office - Litigation section). In1980, she entered private practice and was a former partner with two prominent law firms. Ms. Mickey joined Sher & Blackwell in 1991 as one of its original partners.

Ms. Mickey has represented foreign and domestic companies engaged in, among other things, importing and exporting, shipping (liner, breakbulk, bulk and tanker), ferry services, terminal operations, dredging, and marine construction. In the last four years, Ms. Mickey has handled closings exceeding $1 billion in conventional and government guaranteed loans for vessels and other equipment. On land, Ms. Mickey has represented owners in the sale of commercial buildings. Ms. Mickey has obtained favorable rulings from the U.S. Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection for several clients and recently won a summary judgment in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in a case involving a dispute over cargo shipped from India to Ethiopia.
